I was looking for a catering service when I came across Chef Abhishek. I requested quotes from multiple caterers including this one. Abhishek's quote was the costliest among all. I told him for same menu & services, I got the other quotes around X amount and I can only afford to pay that much. He agreed on X amount saying we will manage within this. I was happy that he agreed without any further negotiation. I was also a bit surprised as the difference was huge. It was two day program arranged in society club house. Club house was very basic - it was just a place without any fancy facilities. Good things - 1. Abhishek visited our place to understand our requirements. 2. He explains how much they care for hygiene given the current BS outbreak. 2. He inspected club house where program was to be held. 3. He told his requirements, our society secretory showed how he can get it. He did a basic inspection of things. 4. Negotiation happened after a site visit. 5. Food was good, we had two day program. Guests were attended satisfactorily. Things that went wrong - 1. On the day of event, our society clarified the drinking water is not RO treated. I asked him to use a good source of water for cooking. He quoted a price tag on that - in addition to our already finalised package. 2. The cooking place was not well lit - there was a miscommunication between society manager and caterers. Abhishek started quoting additional charges for electrician. 3. Event was supposed to end at 3 PM. But it extended till ~4. Abhishek started asking for extra money for this. I agreed to pay this. 4. At the end of event, Abhishek denied taking away trash. This was clearly discussed in initial visit - where is said he will manage that. 5. To take away trash, he quoted Rs 20,000/-, which was outrageously high amount for housekeeping. So I said, I'll manage that by my own. I requested his to just to put the already filled trash bags in one corner in backyard to protect it from dogs, birds etc. He denied. He said, give me 20,000/- I'll do all or I do nothing. After a very long discussion he's worker did put the trash bags in backyard for a nominal amount. 6. There was also an late night incident where the resident complained about the poor hygiene & untidiness at kitchen areas. The workers were sleeping right there in club house area - without permission. But this issue was settled by Abhishek quickly and he also apologised for the same to resident. I wasn't involved in this. tldr: 1. I went with Abhishek for stress free management, ended up getting more stressed. 2. While negotiating - Abhishek should clearly specify what all things are included in package and what not. Just saying - "We will manage within that price" is not enough. 3. Saying "I'll do it all for 20k or do nothing" is a clear example for money extortion at last moment. 4. We literally did not had any extra requests except what we discussed in initial package. It was annoying that every now and then we had to discuss the money for the things he missed in his initial site assessment. I had no issue paying extra if the fair amount would have quoted. But his additional quotes were outrageously high and didn't make any sense. May be he was just trying to catch me in difficult situations. From guest point of view it was 5 star service. But since I was host and I know the agony, I didn't feel same.
